Meet our Doctors and Staff!

Our Veterinarians

Dr. Melissa Hill is a Texas native who is a graduate of Texas A&M University.  After graduation she worked for Pickets Vet Hospital and Hickey Animal Clinic in San Antonio. She purchased Kirby Animal Hospital in 1992 and one of her specialities is Avian and exotic pets.  She is also a member of the American Avian Veterinarians and a falconer.

She and her husband, John, are the proud parents of 5 Jack Russell Terriers, one Bull Mastiff, one German Short-haired Pointer, two mules, several pigeons and chickens!
Dr. Melinda Metzler is also a graduate of Texas A&M University and she has been a part of our family since June 1st!


Our Staff
Renate Spence, Office Manager

Renate received her marketing degree in 1987 from UTSA and worked in the business field for 3 years.  She then decided that she wanted to change her career path to include what she loved, animals. Ms. Spence began working with Dr. Hill as a veterinary technician at Hickey Animal Clinic in December 1990.  She also began working at a bird show at the San Antonio Zoo called Birds Over Texas, from 1992 through 1994 with Last Chance Forever.  Ms. Spence has worked at Kirby Animal Hospital since 1993.  She has two Shetland Sheepdogs, two cats and a Rainbow Lorie.

Lexie Doebber, Veterinary Technician

Lexie started working as a veterinary technician in 2000.  Lexie started working for Dr. Hill in April 2004.  She has always loved caring for animals, even as a little girl.  There is nothing more rewarding to Lexie then seeing the faces of the clients when they come to pick up their once ill pet.  Lexie feels, like all of us at Kirby Animal Hospital, that pets are family members too and should be treated as such.
Jenny Juarez, Veterinary Technician

Jenny started at Kirby Animal Hospital in 2005 as a kennel technician.  She loved taking care of the animals that were being boarded or were at the hospital overnight or extended care, but she wanted to interact with more animals and their owners.  So Jenny worked hard and became a veterinary technician in 2006.  Jenny feels like this is her calling, to work with animals and help them feel better so that when their owners come to pick them up they are surprised to see how much better their pet is.
Yvette Reyes, Veterinary Technician

Yvette has been working at Kirby Animal Hospital since March 2008 as a kennel technician and has worked her way up to becoming a veterinary technician.  She says that her experience working at Kirby Animal Hospital "has been like no other".  Yvette loves animals very much and she has 5 dogs of her own.  Yvette has always dreamed of working for a veterinarian and wouldn't want to work for any other vet but Dr. Hill.

Peggy Henarie, Receptionist

Peggy started with us this past February, and brings with her a wide variety of customer service skills!  She hopes to attend night school in the future to broaden her knowledge and skills!

Naomi Dominguez, Kennel Tech

Naomi started with us January 2011 and graduated from veterinary technician school in January 2012!

Michelle Robnett, Receptionist

Michelle started with us March 2011 and is taking veterinarian technician classes at Palo Alto.  She will be a registered veterinary technician soon!

Nolly Watkins, Receptionist

Nolly is a student who started with us April 2011 and has recently been accepted to nursing school!
Marissa Rumley, Veterinary Technician

Marissa joined us in April of 2011.  She brings years of technician experience with her and enjoys working with exotics!  She is also a volunteer at Wild Life Rescue.
Cristina Corba, Receptionist

Cristina joined us in June of 2011.  She came to us all the way from Italy and has loads of exotic experience!
